A window of opportunity
Leading organisations in the midst of an economic crisis might not be for the faint-hearted, but it also creates opportunities. Given the amount of system-level disruption that we are seeing, it's a really important time for organisations large and small to be reviewing the assumptions that have shaped their past strategies and behaviours, and reimagining what the future looks like. Good upfront thinking is valuable at the best of times, but in contexts where there is heightened ambiguity and complexity, multiple possible pathways forward, and a unique opportunity to make some transformative changes, it's more important than ever.
As leaders, it's vital to carve out some thinking time for yourself and with your team, and not allow yourselves to be overwhelmed by the tyranny of the urgent. The window of opportunity is open to set a new course into a sustainable future, but the current momentum for accelerated change won't be there forever. The quality of thinking that happens now will make a big impact on your outcomes for some years to come.
